A hydroponic tower grows plants without soil by delivering water, nutrients and light directly to the root zone of each plant. Understanding how the system works makes setup easier, helps you troubleshoot problems and gives you confidence in caring for your garden over time.
The Reservoir
Every Hyenjoyia tower starts with a 35-litre reservoir at the base. This is where your nutrient solution lives — water mixed with a balanced liquid or powdered nutrient formula that provides everything your plants need to grow.
The reservoir is the foundation of the system. Keeping it filled to the correct level and maintaining the right nutrient concentration is one of the most important things you do as a tower owner.
The Pump
Inside the reservoir sits a water pump. On a scheduled cycle, the pump draws nutrient solution up through a central tube that runs the full height of the tower. The solution is distributed from the top of the tower downward, flowing through each growing tier and returning to the reservoir below.
This recirculating design means nutrient solution is used efficiently — nothing is wasted, and roots receive consistent moisture with each pump cycle.
The Growing Tiers and Plant Sites
The growing tiers are the stacked rings that make up the body of the tower. Each tier holds a set of individual plant sites — net pots or cups filled with a growing medium like clay pebbles or rockwool — where your plants are placed.
As nutrient solution flows down through the tiers, it passes through or around the root zone of each plant, delivering moisture and nutrients before draining back to the reservoir.
The Grow Lights
A vertical LED tube sits alongside the tower body, providing full-spectrum light to your plants at consistent intensity from top to bottom. The grow lights are designed to support healthy photosynthesis across all tiers, compensating for the variation in natural light that might otherwise favour plants on certain levels.
The lights run on a scheduled cycle that you set through the tower's control system.
The Controls
Hyenjoyia towers are available with two control options. The Mechanical Timer uses a 12V pump with a physical timer dial that you set manually to control the pump and light schedule. The Smart Touchscreen uses a 24V pump and a digital display that lets you program watering and lighting cycles precisely.
Both options automate the core functions of the system. What remains manual is monitoring — checking water levels, measuring and adjusting nutrient concentration, and inspecting your plants regularly.
What You Manage
Running a hydroponic tower well requires a small amount of consistent attention. Check the reservoir water level every few days and top it up when needed. Test the nutrient solution concentration using an EC meter every one to two weeks and adjust as required. Check pH periodically and correct if it drifts outside the ideal range for your crops.
Every two to three weeks, drain and rinse the reservoir and replace the nutrient solution completely. Clean the pump filter monthly to prevent buildup.
